Recovery from chronic illness

(and chronic burnout)

There are a whole host of chronic illnesses stemming from the brain and nervous system, including fatigue, brain fog, ME/CFS, long-Covid, Lyme disease, various intolerances, headaches, chronic pain, post-viral syndromes, Fibromyalgia, digestive issues ... the list goes on and on. If you've seen countless doctors, tried countless therapies, and still can't find relief, don't despair.

I recovered fully*, as have thousands of others.

My Story

For over fifteen years I suffered from ME/CFS and a whole host of other debilitating symptoms including digestive issues, food intolerances, insomnia, migraine headaches and very severe PEM (Post Exertional Malaise.). At first I was housebound and then, having recovered to some degree, I was able to live a half-life (most of the time). My work as an artist and activist came to a screeching halt, and I was forced to watch from the sidelines as life passed me by - or so it often felt. I was told there was no cure and that I would never recover.

I then discovered the Curable app (yes, an app!), the work of Dr John E. Sarno, Dr. Howard Schubiner and their work around Tension Myoneural Syndrome (TMS). I also discovered coaches who had themselves recovered (Miguel Bautista, Rebecca Tolin and Cathleen King). Most importantly, I came to understand that all my symptoms stemmed from a hyper-sensitive nervous system and over-protective brain, and that there was indeed a path to recovery. I felt hopeful for the first time in years.

I took a deep dive into the science, the literature, and my own deep contemplative practice. After lots of trial and error (and having finally gotten a coach myself) I am now fully recovered. My work as an artist, activist and coach has resumed in full force, I'm in the gym three days/week, and am living life to the hilt!

If my story resonates with you and you've not yet recovered, I bring you a message of hope:

I recovered* and thousands of others have too - even in these tumultuous times, even in the wake of a personal shattering, even in spite of profound human suffering and social injustice.

The world needs you and your change-making work.

*Ultimately, Sara's path to recovery led her away from western medicine and toward the more experimental polyvagal theory and the (no longer controversial) world of Mind/Body medicine. Like Sara, many practitioners now helping sufferers of ME/CFS recover have no medical training and suggest practices that lack robust empirical data proving their efficacy. That said, Western medicine offers little help to those suffering from conditions for which no biological cause can be found, while Mind/Body Recovery programs have, by now, a huge and hopeful catalogue of anecdotal evidence.

We feel strongly that we have found the path to healing, but encourage you to make informed decisions.
