It is common, but not necessary, to live with a constant feeling of either high or low-level stress due to repetitive, punishing thoughts. It is also common, but not necessary, to deal with said thoughts by employing a strategy of distraction - which compounds the problem. A contemplative (or STILL) practice can bring about a profound state of peace, making it possible to feel lighter, more joyous, and more connected to the Divine (whatever that means to you). That said, beginning and committing to the sort of rugged and regular practice that brings about such a shift can be hard, especially in the beginning.
